Thank you for considering volunteering for Sherwood Autism Center! There are many volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and companies that help Sherwood fulfill its mission to empower children and adults with autism and related disabilities.


Host a Jeans Day Ask for a $5 (or other) donation to wear jeans to work and give the money to Sherwood.

Participate in a Day of Giving and get a group together to volunteer for a day.

  • Painting
  • Cleaning
  • Gardening
  • Raking leaves and general clean-up

Organize a donation drive. Sherwood always needs:

  • School supplies
  • Clorox wipes
  • Kleenex
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Tooth brushes and tooth paste



Set up the Staff Holiday Party. Activities include put out tables and chairs and decorate the tree the night before the event.



We have numerous fundraising and family activity events.

February: Beat the Blues. This is a fun night of eating, drinking and dancing to help guests Beat the (Winter) Blues while raising money for Sherwood!

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help secure silent auction items
  • Set up the event
  • Work during the event at registration, silent auction, coat check
  • Clean up after the event

June: Blues and BBQ

We have partnered with BB’s Lawnside BBQ for 25 years, bringing together two of Kansas City’s favorites – Blues music and BBQ.

Volunteers needed the day of the event to:

  • Set up event
  • Take tickets
  • Pour beer
  • Staff the Sherwood info booth and more!

July: We ‘DIG’ Sherwood

This is a sand volleyball tournament at Volleyball Beach.

Volunteers are needed the day of the event to:

  • Set up event
  • Register guests
  • Sell raffle tickets

November: Bingo

This autism friendly event provides a safe, fun event for our families and others in the autism community. Volunteers are needed the day/evening before the event and the night of the event to:

  • Help prepare gift bags
  • Set up tables and chairs
  • Run the concession stand
  • Sell bingo cards
