Wellness at Sherwood Autism Center

At Sherwood Autism Center, wellness is part of how we support the whole person. Our approach includes nutritious meals, access to drinking water, movement throughout the day, life skills-based nutrition education, family engagement, and employee wellness. These efforts are guided by our Local Wellness Policy, which outlines how Sherwood promotes healthy environments and positive habits across programs and school settings.

Sherwood’s wellness policy includes a number of key commitments, including maintaining a wellness committee with stakeholder involvement, providing meals that meet or exceed federal nutrition requirements, making free drinking water available throughout the school day, integrating nutrition education into functional life-skills instruction, supporting physical activity through structured and individualized opportunities, and encouraging employee wellness. The policy also states that physical activity will not be used or withheld as punishment and that the policy and assessment results will be shared publicly.

2025 Wellness Policy Scorecard

As part of our commitment to accountability and continuous improvement, Sherwood completed a wellness policy assessment using the WellSAT tool. The results show an overall comprehensiveness score of 100 and an overall strength score of 83, reflecting a strong policy foundation and a clear commitment to student and staff wellness.

The scorecard shows strong marks across federal requirements, nutrition environment and services, nutrition education, physical activity, and employee wellness. Areas highlighted in the assessment include nutrition education that is behavior-focused and participatory, strategies to increase school meal participation, free drinking water access, adequate seated lunch time, family and community engagement in physical activity, physical activity breaks during the school day, and staff wellness support.

We invite families, staff, and community members to review both documents below to learn more about how Sherwood is building environments that support health, dignity, and lifelong well-being.
